Still stuck? Send us a message or email hello@radsoftinc.com with your phone model, the tag you’re using and what you saw. We usually reply within two working days.
What you need
- iPhone: an iPhone XR, XS, SE (2nd generation) or newer, on iOS 18.2 or later. nfcify isn’t available on iPad, which has no NFC.
- Android: a phone with NFC, on Android 7.0 or later. Google Play only offers nfcify to phones with NFC. Turn it on in Settings, usually under Connected devices or Connections.
- A tag: NTAG213, NTAG215 and NTAG216 stickers and cards work best.
Reading a tag
- On iPhone, hold the top edge of the phone against the tag. On Android, the reader is usually in the middle of the back.
- Hold still for a second. Thick cases, metal and MagSafe rings can block the signal, so try without the case.
- “More than one tag found” means two tags are in range. Hold just one.
- iPhones can’t read MIFARE Classic tags at all. On Android they only work on phones with an NXP NFC chip.
Writing a tag
- The tag is too small. The capacity meter on the Write tab shows how much fits. NTAG213 holds about 137 bytes, NTAG215 about 492 and NTAG216 about 868.
- The tag is locked. A locked tag is read-only for good and can’t be written, erased or unlocked by any app.
- The tag has a password. Remove it first under Other → Password → Remove. You need the password that was set; without it the tag can’t be changed.
- An iPhone ignores my tag. iPhones only act on a tag by themselves when the first record is an https link, a phone number, SMS, email or FaceTime. Wi-Fi, contacts, text and map locations only show up inside an NFC app on iPhone. nfcify warns you about this before you write.
Passwords and locking
- nfcify doesn’t keep a copy of tag passwords. Write yours down: if you forget it, the tag can still be read but never changed again.
- Locking can’t be undone. nfcify asks twice before it locks a tag.
Copying a tag
Copy reads the records on one tag and writes them to a second one. It can’t copy NTAG 424 DNA tags, whose signed links only work from the original chip, and it doesn’t copy a tag’s UID.
Your data
There’s no account. Your scans and drafts stay on your phone; see the privacy policy. Clear the scan history from the Read tab, or delete the app to remove everything.
